It is with both sorrow and Christian hope that I ask your prayers for our brother, Deacon Gordon Hudec, who has died at the age of 80. Deacon Gordon suffered a stroke three weeks ago, and his cognitive abilities declined in the days following.
Yesterday, I was blessed to be at his side, praying with him and with his family who kept loving vigil. I am profoundly grateful to the deacons and priests who walked with him this past year, ensuring he remained connected to the fraternity he loved. Your presence mattered.
Shortly after Deacon Gordon was called to our Lord’s embrace, I had the privilege of ministering to his family and praying the Church’s prayers after death, commending this faithful servant to the mercy of Jesus Christ. It was a sacred moment of grief, gratitude, and trust in the promise of the Resurrection.
Deacon Gordon was ordained by James Francis Stafford on May 9, 1987. Through decades of generous ministry, he served the faithful at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, St. Joan of Arc Parish, Christ on the Mountain Parish, St. Augustine Parish, and St. Mark Parish. He gave himself as well in Deacon Leadership and Hospital Ministry until retiring in 2020.
His beloved bride, Julie, went before him in 2012 after 46 years of marriage. Please hold their children; Michael, Heidi, and Alicia, and their families close in prayer.
We also remember with gratitude his service to our country as a veteran of the United States Navy.
In April 2023, he moved to the Diocese of Colorado Springs in Castle Pines to be near his children, who have cared for him with deep love. Funeral arrangements are pending through Mount Olivet Cemetery. Information will be shared as soon as it becomes available.
May the Lord who called him to ordained service now welcome him into the joy of His Kingdom.
Requiescat in pace,
AMDG,
