Salve Brothers.

With deep sorrow, yet confident trust in the promise of the Resurrection, we share the passing of Deacon Michael “Mike” Bunch, who was 76 years old. Deacon Mike had been courageously battling cancer for several years, with the illness advancing in 2023. He died in the presence of his beloved bride just over an hour ago.

Deacon Mike was ordained to the diaconate by Archbishop Charles Chaput on June 12, 2004. He faithfully served the Church at St. Jude Parish, with a brief assignment at Christ on the Mountain Parish, before returning to St. Jude where he ministered devotedly until his retirement in 2023. His service extended beyond the parish through his ministry at Porter Hospital, his leadership as Liturgy Director at St. Jude, and his contributions as a member of the Deacon Council.

A proud veteran, Deacon Mike served in the United States Army during 1970–1971, including service in Vietnam. In recognition of his faithful service to our country in a time of war, he was honored this past Veterans Day.

Above all, he was a devoted husband and family man. He and his beloved wife, Laura, shared 55 years of marriage. We ask your prayers for Laura, their children Jacquelynn and Williard, and all their family during this time.

Funeral liturgies will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

Deacon Mike lived his vocation as a servant of Christ and His Church with quiet strength, fidelity, and love.

May he now rest in the mercy and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Requiescat in pace.

AMDG,

Deacon Ernest Martinez Director of Deacons
