Gospel Reflection
26th Sunday OT
Our Sunday Gospel reminds us that God’s Spirit is still blowing, not just upon we ordained, but upon the Eldad’s and the Medad’s of our day. The Holy Spirit is blowing upon many, laypeople who have been given many gifts from God. Moses got it right:
“Would that all the people of the LORD were prophets!Would that the LORD might bestow his spirit on them all!”
God does not diminish anyone’s own gifts when spreading those gifts among a wider population. Did Moses’s ability to prophesy weaken after dozens of elders received the same ability? No. Were Jesus’ exorcisms less effective because others were doing the same thing in his name? Of course not, we cannot put a limit on the gifts God gives.
I was given a reminder this past Wednesday, after a decree meeting with a brother and his Pastor. I went to grab some Frosty’s for my grandkids whom my bride was watching, and I was really moved by the Holy Spirit to buy a Wendy’s meal for this dude, who was in obvious need. I met ‘Adam’, and we engaged in good talk, prayer and he prayed for me! Although he has been in a tough way for a long time, he gave me more of a gift than I gave him, he was an Eldad or Medad of today, testifying to the Gospel.
Brothers, let us embrace the people God has chosen to speak and work through; let us tell others to release their Inner Prophet! Let us EMBRACE this tough life and say to others to say YES to God’s will, and when we find ourselves walking through hell on Earth, let us keep going through the gates of Gehenna and keep walking as ‘Adam’ has, as Prophets for the Greater Glory of God – AMDG.
Receive, Believe, Teach, Practice!
